This neighbourhood sits between Wenxin Road and Zhongming South Road, and crossing Wenxin Road to the west takes you into Qiqi (the 7th District). Gongyi Road cuts through the middle, and the stretch right on the border between Nantun and Xiqu is lined with barbecue and hot pot restaurants — the Ministry of Economic Affairs even listed it as a "Brand Street". On Dadun Road, the Dadun Shiyi Living Plaza is a shopping centre converted from the former Carrefour Dadun store; the Carrefour inside closed at the end of February 2026, and the "Dadun Carrefour neighbourhood" you might see in older material refers to this same area. Down the side streets you'll find homes and small community parks tucked in one after another, with a market just a few steps away.
Out of Taichung's 32 neighbourhoods, this one ranks 1st for healthcare and 3rd for everyday convenience, so you won't have to travel far for a doctor or to run errands. There are plenty of options for groceries: Daxin Market, Dajin Market, and in the evenings, Wenxin No. 1 Evening Market and Dalong Road Evening Market. The MRT Green Line runs along Wenxin Road on the west side, and the four stations — City Hall, Shui'an Temple, Wenxin Forest Park, and Nantun — are all just across the road in Qiqi, an easy walk away; public transport here ranks 6th. Daxin Elementary School, Dongxing Elementary School, and Daye Junior High School are all within the neighbourhood.
Greenery ranks 19th and street environment ranks 15th, putting this neighbourhood somewhere in the middle for Taichung. Most of the green space on this side consists of small community parks — a big park like Wenxin Forest Park is over on the other side of Wenxin Road, in Qiqi. Restaurants are concentrated along Gongyi Road, so the area tends to get busier around dinnertime; if you're thinking of living near Gongyi Road, it's worth checking it out at that hour.
The official name for Wuqi (the 5th District) is the "Wuqi Dadun Land Readjustment," carried out from June 1983 to January 1985; before the readjustment, the area was mostly farmland with messy, scattered land parcels. The name "Dadun" originally referred to a mound in what is now Taichung Park — Paotai Hill (Cannon Platform Hill) — around which a settlement formed during the Qing dynasty; it grew into Dadun Street during the Qianlong era and later became an old name for Taichung itself. In the neighbourhood, the area around Daye Village and Huizhong Village was traditionally called Gouziqian (originally written as Gouzaiqian), and it was an independent town in its own right from the late Qing dynasty through the early Japanese colonial period.
