China Medical University's Yingcai Campus on Xueshi Road is the centre of this neighbourhood. Right across the street is Zhongzheng Park, and on the Chongde Road side you'll find the Beiqu National Sports Center. Head west into the lanes and you'll find rows of houses, with the green belt of Shangde Park and Yude Greenway sandwiched in between.
For everyday shopping this neighbourhood ranks 1st out of Taichung's 32 neighbourhoods, and 2nd for healthcare — you won't need to go far for groceries or a doctor. The affiliated hospital sits on the southern edge of the neighbourhood, and part of the hospital campus is already considered part of the neighbouring Yizhong Shopping District. Food places cluster around Xueshi Road and Yongxing Street, locally known as the Xueshi Road Shopping District. If you want to exercise, head to the Beiqu National Sports Center, which has an international-standard swimming pool. Pavements rank 6th, so walking conditions are decent. For kids' schooling, there's Shengsan Elementary School in the neighbourhood.
There's no MRT station in the neighbourhood — the nearest ones, Wenxin Chongde Station and Siwei Elementary School Station on the Green Line, are both about 1 km from the edge of the neighbourhood, and public transport ranks 23rd. On weekdays you'll mostly rely on buses or your own scooter/bike to commute, so when you're viewing places, work out how long it'll take to get to work first.
This area's old name was Qiucuozi, once home to a large settlement of the Qiu family; after fires and wartime unrest, the Qius gradually moved away, and the Lai family moved in, though the place name stuck. To the north, Laicuobu was a Lai family settlement where sugarcane was once grown and a small sugar mill operated; today's Laicun Village sits in that area. In 1958, several traditional Chinese medicine doctors founded China Medical College, Taiwan's first medical college for Chinese medicine, which was upgraded to university status in 2003. The affiliated hospital opened in November 1980. Zhongzheng Park across the street was completed in 1977; the site of the sports center used to be the Zhongzheng Swimming Pool and tennis courts, rebuilt and reopened in October 2017. In 2020 the Shuinan New Campus was completed and the main campus moved there, so the Xueshi Road site is now called the Yingcai Campus.
