Daqing Station is where the Taiwan Railway and the MRT Green Line meet, with the two sides connected by a footbridge. The MRT station's name also carries the tag "Chung Shan Medical University" - from Exit 1, walking about 500 meters along Jianguo North Road gets you to Chung Shan Medical University and the Daqing Branch of its affiliated hospital. Around the station and to the south are the residential areas of Shude and Shuyi neighbourhoods, whose old place name was Shuzijiao.
For public transport, this ranks 9th out of Taichung's 32 neighbourhoods - from one station you can catch the Taiwan Railway, and also take the Green Line toward Beitun or Taichung HSR Station. The affiliated hospital is medical-centre grade, so for serious illnesses you don't need to travel far. For schooling there's Shude Elementary School and Shuyi Elementary School, and for a stroll you can go to Shuzijiao Park, Shuyi Park, or Daqing Park. Buildings rank 9th, putting it in the top tier among the 32 neighbourhoods.
Daily shopping only ranks 29th, so options for groceries and everyday shopping are a bit limited. Healthcare ranks 18th, putting it in the middle among the 32 neighbourhoods. The well-known Daqing Night Market is actually outside this neighbourhood, in Chonglun neighbourhood to the north; Taichung Industrial High School is also outside the neighbourhood. The southern half of Shuyi neighbourhood runs along the Green River and borders Wuri, where housing is more sparse.
Shuzijiao is an old settlement in Taichung, where most residents descend from the Lin family clan, and its area covers today's Shuyi and Shude neighbourhoods. Fanpo also belongs to Shuzijiao, where the "Shude House" is over a hundred years old. In 1960, dentist Zhou Ruchuan founded the Chung Shan Dental Junior College, which was later upgraded step by step, becoming Chung Shan Medical University in 2001. Its affiliated hospital was established in 1966. Taiwan Railway's Daqing Station opened in 1998, the first station built under the Taiwan Railway's policy to operate more like the MRT. In April 2021, the Green Line opened for service, making Daqing a transfer station between the Taiwan Railway and the MRT.
