Taichung Station and its back exit are actually not in this neighbourhood - they belong to the neighbouring Taichung Station neighbourhood. Coming out of Exits 1-3 on Fuxing Road on the east side of the station, walk about two hundred-odd metres to the intersection of Fuxing Road Section 4 and Zhenxing Road, and you're in the neighbourhood. Further east, you'll see LaLaport North Hall, and next to it, that old flat-roofed building clad in khaki-coloured tiles is the Taichung Sales Office of the Imperial Sugar Manufacturing Company. Further south is Dongguang Greenway, a green belt that runs all the way to Dazhi Road.
Greenery ranks 10th out of the 32 neighbourhoods in Taichung, and street-view cleanliness ranks 13th. Along Dongguang Greenway you'll find Renhe Park, Luoying Plaza and Dazhi Park, so there's no shortage of places to stroll. For groceries you can go to New Jianguo Market, right next to LaLaport. Taichung Elementary School, Dazhi Elementary School and Dongfeng Junior High School are all in the neighbourhood, and East District Library is there too. Public transport ranks 15th, and it's not far to walk to Taichung Station to catch the TRA.
Healthcare only ranks 29th, towards the bottom among Taichung's 32 neighbourhoods. Daily shopping ranks 22nd, also in the lower-middle range. The old Taichung Back Station and Daluge Xinshidai next to the station are actually outside the neighbourhood; Zhongxiao Night Market is also outside it, belonging to South District.
In 1912, the Imperial Sugar Manufacturing Company set up its Taichung Factory here; after the war it became the Taiwan Sugar Corporation's Taichung Sugar Factory, and sugarcane pressing stopped in 1990. In 2013 the city government began land expropriation in the sugar factory area, and in 2016 Jianguo Market moved into the site. The Sales Office was restored and opened to the public at the end of 2019. LaLaport Taichung broke ground in 2020 and fully opened in May 2023. The schools in this area have their own history too: Taichung Elementary School's predecessor was the Shu Branch School, founded in 1923, and its Jianzhong branch class became independent in 1959 to form today's Dazhi Elementary School.
MRT Blue Line construction started in June 2025, running along Taiwan Boulevard past Taichung Station, with its eastern terminus set at New Jianguo Market. Of the two East District stations listed by the East District Office, one is in Gancheng Li and the other is in Quanyuan Li within the neighbourhood; the city government's target is to complete and open the line by 2034.
