Zhongyuan station and Yuanshan Rd, where Zhonghe's riverside homes meet old industry
Zhongyuan Station is an elevated station on the Circular Line, near the intersection of Bannan Road and Zhongzheng Road, with its two platforms stacked on the third and fifth floors. The neighbourhood's northeast border runs along Huanhe West Road Section 3, with the riverside area of the Xindian River just outside. To the east, Huazhong Bridge and Dinosaur Park both sit outside the neighbourhood, less than half a kilometre away — cross the bridge and you're in Wanhua District, Taipei City. The redevelopment zone west of Huazhong Bridge is nicknamed "Zhonghe Left Bank" by real estate agents, an area that's gradually turning from industrial to residential.
For public transport, this neighbourhood ranks 11th among New Taipei City's 40 neighbourhoods, with Zhongyuan Station on the Circular Line right inside it. Its streetscape — judging from building photos — ranks 8th, near the top among the 40 neighbourhoods. Guangfu Elementary School sits within the neighbourhood in Zhongyuan Li, so children living in Zhongyuan Li can choose to attend it.
Healthcare access isn't great here — this neighbourhood ranks 38th out of New Taipei City's 40 neighbourhoods for medical resources, so be prepared to head outside the neighbourhood whenever you need to see a doctor. Daily shopping ranks 30th, also near the bottom, so you'll likewise need to go outside the neighbourhood for errands. Be sure to check the school zoning carefully before you move: Zhongyuan Li and Yuanfu Li are open-enrolment zones with no assigned elementary school, while Yuanshan Li is split between Jisui Elementary School and Haishan Elementary School in Banqiao District.
Back in the Qing and Japanese colonial eras, this area was already called "Yonghe," referring to Zhongyuan Village — that's where today's Yonghe Road in Zhonghe gets its name, and it has nothing to do with the later Yonghe District. Huazhong Bridge opened to traffic in 1976, connecting Zhonghe with Wanhua District, Taipei City. The Circular Line opened in 2020, and Zhongyuan Station opened along with it. After the Hualien earthquake in April 2024, the tracks on the Banxin–Zhongyuan section shifted out of alignment, forcing Zhongyuan Station to suspend operations — service didn't resume until December 12.
