Tightly packed homes, yet the street corner still keeps a small park you can climb to the top of
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
Nine villages, home to about 35,000 people, fit into 82 hectares: about 425 people per hectare, more than twice the Zhonghe District average. Even in streets this dense, a small hill, Mantoushan, survives at the corner of Juguang Road and Guoguang Street; it is now Ziqiang Park, and a path winds up to a pavilion at the top.
Ziqiang Elementary School is right beside the park, at No. 200 Juguang Road. Towards Minde Road there is Mingde Park, about 2.4 hectares, and Qingsui Park, about 1 hectare, sits off Lane 2 of Huashun Street.
Pavements rank 21st among New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, in the upper tier. Everyday shopping ranks 34th, in the middle tier.
School catchments depend on the village: Ziqiang, Qingsui and Guohua villages are in Ziqiang Elementary School's catchment, while only some lin (neighborhood units) of Desui and Ruisui are. Minsheng Village, plus some lin of Guoguang and Desui villages, falls in the catchment of Shijian Elementary School in Banqiao, which is outside this neighborhood. Shoude and Mingde villages can choose between Ziqiang Elementary School and Chongqing Elementary School in Banqiao.
Public transport ranks 80th among New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, in the lower tier. Real-estate listings for the Jisui area say there is no MRT here yet, people rely mainly on buses, and the main roads are often jammed at rush hour.
In our street photos, buildings rank 77th, also in the lower tier.
Zhonghe's population piled up quickly: about 20,000 people in 1946, over 100,000 by 1973 and over 200,000 by 1978. Wikipedia gives the reasons as the arrival of people from mainland China from 1949, Zhonghe's designation as a civil defence evacuation area after the war, and migration from the countryside.
In 1979 Zhonghe became a county-administered city. These are all figures for the whole district, not for this neighborhood alone.
Juguang Station, on the first phase of the Wanda Line, is on Juguang Road, but in neighbouring Mingsui Village, outside this neighborhood. A United Daily News report in August 2026 said the first phase is expected to be substantially complete by the end of 2027, with work around Juguang Station and Jincheng Depot close to 84% done.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
How to read it: yellow = poor, blue = good; grey = not enough data
TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
