Local guide

01First impressions

Zhonghe Station sits at the intersection of Zhongshan Road Section 2 and Jingping Road, and it's a stop on the Circular Line. Walking about half a kilometre east from the station brings you to Guangji Temple and the neighbouring Fuhe Temple, which locals together call the "Zhonghe Grand Temple". Zhonghe Elementary School and Fangliao Market are also in this neighbourhood, with the market located in Zhanghe Village.

02What works

For everyday shopping, this neighbourhood ranks 1st among New Taipei's 40 neighbourhoods, so getting things done is very convenient. You won't need to travel far for medical care either — it ranks 7th out of the 40 neighbourhoods, putting it near the top. The neighbourhood has Zhonghe Station on the Circular Line, and in the future there will also be a Wanda Line transfer here. The area around the Grand Temple was Zhonghe's earliest commercial district, and the Miaokou Business District grew outward from here.

03Heads-up

Street view cleanliness ranks 30th, putting it toward the lower end among New Taipei's 40 neighbourhoods. The neighbourhood's western border is Bannan Road and Zhongshan Road Section 2 — Qiaohe Station is actually in the neighbouring Qiaohe neighbourhood, not this one, so be sure to keep that straight when house-hunting.

04A bit of history

Zhonghe's earliest street market was Fangliao, with records of Han Chinese settlements dating back to 1741. In the early days, carpenters gathered here, and there were many workshops making wooden boards — that's how the place name "Fangliao" (meaning "plank sheds") came about. Guangji Temple was built in 1757, and Fuhe Temple went up next to it in 1766; together they're known as the Zhonghe Grand Temple. In 1859, clashes between Zhangzhou and Quanzhou settlers broke out, starting in Wayao, and a major fire also swept through Fangliao Street. Wayao is today's Wayao Village within this neighbourhood. In 1908, Banqiao Public School set up a branch in Fangliao, which later became Zhonghe Elementary School — the first elementary school in Zhonghe. The Circular Line opened in 2020, and Zhonghe Station began operation.

05What's coming

The first phase of the Wanda Line is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, according to the timeline announced by the New Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems. Its Zhonghe Station will be built underground along Liancheng Road, west of Jingping Road, connected to the Circular Line's Zhonghe Station via an underground passageway for transfers.

How are these measured?

Compared against the New Taipei neighbourhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
