Life in an older Banqiao apartment complex, with the doctor, school and everyday shopping all on foot
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
Property news reports call the area around Xinhai Road and Siwei Road the "Xinhai shopping area", describing it as one of Banqiao's earlier-developed residential districts, where most homes are in apartment complexes twenty to thirty years old. This neighborhood takes the Xinhai Road side; the Siwei Road side belongs to the neighbouring Banqiao Xinpu.
The reports also describe its streets as a neat grid, packed with shops and with a strongly residential feel. Everyday essentials can be bought on Xinhai Road itself, where there are chain drugstores, and a PX Mart sits in a lane off Yunong Road.
Walk from Xinhai Road towards Yingshi Road and you reach both Wende Elementary School and New Taipei City Hospital's Banqiao Branch on the same road, so school runs and family doctor's visits are all within walking distance.
Healthcare ranks 10th among New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, in the upper tier. New Taipei City Hospital's Banqiao Branch, at No. 198 Yingshi Road, is inside this neighborhood and offers outpatient and emergency care as well as a nursing home.
Everyday shopping ranks 17th, also in the upper tier, and the drugstores and supermarket around Xinhai Road cover the basics.
Wende Elementary School is at No. 179 Yingshi Road. Its catchment covers seven villages in this neighborhood, leaving out only lin (neighborhood unit) 12 of Wende Village. Xinpu Junior High School is at No. 181 Xinhai Road.
Public transport ranks 53rd among New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, toward the lower end of the middle tier. Property news reports also say it is a 15- to 20-minute walk from here to the MRT station, and some residents take a YouBike or a bus to get there.
In our street photos, greenery ranks 95th, in the lower tier.
Xinhai Bridge opened in 1964, linking Jiangzicui in Banqiao with Xinzhuang. Just over twenty years later the bridge had outlived its design life, and the layout of its approach was also hampering traffic, so in 1986 it was demolished and rebuilt, and Xinhai Road was opened at the same time as a second way onto the bridge from the Banqiao end.
Today Xinhai Road links Xinhai Bridge with the Haishan area, and also connects Hansheng West Road and Hansheng East Road. In the years around the road's opening, public facilities nearby followed one after another: Xinpu Junior High School was founded in 1985 and the county-run Banqiao Hospital in 1986.
The site of that former county hospital is now where the city government plans the Banqiao Medical Park, and the city is looking for an operator to run it. The first tender, in late 2024, failed because of the National Health Insurance global budget cap and limits on beds and quotas for new hospitals.
In a second selection in May 2026, the Far Eastern Medical Foundation was chosen as the preferred applicant, and contract negotiation and signing come next. The report did not say when the park will be completed.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
