Taking the kids to Guoguang Park after school, and to the lawns of the 435 Art Zone at weekends

Guoguang Elementary School and Guoguang Park are only about 170 metres apart, so taking the kids to the park after school is just a few steps' walk. Real-estate listings also describe Guoguang Park as the place for family outings and everyday walks around here, with the school and homes right beside it.
Further north, No. 435 Zhongzheng Road is the Banqiao 435 Art Zone, a site of about 5 hectares with lawns, exhibition halls and the Taiwan Toy Museum. Banqiao Junior High School is on the same stretch of Zhongzheng Road.
Zhongzheng Road is County Highway 106, running northwest across Xinhai Bridge to Xinzhuang and southeast across Xiulang Bridge to Xindian.
Greenery ranks 48th out of 100 neighborhoods in New Taipei, and the park for walks with the kids is close to home.
Daily shopping is handled along Zhongzheng Road: real-estate listings describe this as an everyday shopping area of traditional markets, small eateries and clinics, with the big shopping centres in Fuzhong or behind Banqiao Station. For swimming or badminton, head east outside this neighborhood to the Banqiao Civil Sports Center in Decui Village, which opened in 2015.
There is no MRT station in this neighborhood, so day to day you rely on buses or walk to Banqiao Station, Fuzhong Station or Xinpu Station. Public transit ranks 56th out of 100 neighborhoods in New Taipei, toward the lower end of the middle tier.
In our street photos, sidewalks rank 57th, toward the lower end of the middle tier. Zhongzheng Road and Minquan Road are only about 15 to 18 metres wide, and real-estate listings also note mixed, busy traffic here and hard parking in some lanes.
From the late Qing period into the early Japanese era, Shehou was called Shehou Zhuang and belonged to Baijie Bao. In 1920 it became an oaza (a Japanese-era unit) under Banqiao Zhuang in Haishan District; after the war the oaza became a village, and as the population grew it was split into the several villages that exist today.
The land at No. 435 Zhongzheng Road was originally home to the Veterans Affairs Council's accounting staff training centre and its professional staff education centre. In 1996 the training centre was merged into the council's vocational training centre in Taoyuan, and the site stood empty for about 10 years.
In 2007 the Banqiao City Office was commissioned to clean it up and reopened it as the Banqiao 435 Art Zone; since June 2012 it has been run by the New Taipei City Government's Department of Cultural Affairs.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
How to read it: yellow = poor, blue = good; grey = not enough data
TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
