Around Far Eastern Memorial Hospital station, between Sichuan Rd and Provincial Hwy 65
Yadong is a long, narrow residential strip at the southernmost tip of Banqiao, bordered on the west by Expressway 65. Yadong Hospital Station sits on Nanya South Road, right next to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital and Oriental Institute of Technology. Houpu Market, in Xiangyun Li, is also within this neighbourhood.
Seeing a doctor is easy here—healthcare ranks 7th among New Taipei's 40 neighbourhoods, and Yadong Hospital Station connects directly into the hospital. Streetscape photos rank 11th, putting it near the top third among the 40 neighbourhoods. All 3 Li that make up Xinyi Elementary School's basic attendance zone fall entirely within this neighbourhood. The main branch of the New Taipei City Library is also here, on Guixing Road.
The neighbourhood is long and narrow, pinching down to a single thin neck at Xinyi Li—when house-hunting, check how far it really is on foot to the station and the hospital. Public transport ranks 22nd and daily convenience ranks 19th, both middling among New Taipei's 40 neighbourhoods, and Yadong Hospital Station is the only MRT station in the area. Pay close attention to school zoning: part of Xinyi Elementary School's campus land actually lies in Tucheng District, and Houpu Elementary School's attendance zone includes 3 other Li lying outside the neighbourhood, to the east.
In 1969, Far Eastern Group founder Xu Youxiang founded Yadong Industrial Vocational Junior College, the forerunner of today's Oriental Institute of Technology. It was the first private two-year junior college in Taiwan. In 1981, he donated funds to establish Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, because at the time the Banqiao–Tucheng area was full of factories but had no large modern hospital. The Tucheng Line opened in 2006; the station was originally meant to be called 'Nanzi,' but the name was changed before opening, and it wasn't connected directly to the hospital until 2016.
