Every year on Dadaogong's birthday, the temple fair comes alive beside Bao'an Market, where you buy your groceries

On the Showtime side of Shulin, you buy your groceries at Bao'an Market; Wikipedia says this temporary consolidated market is the only public market left in Shulin District. Right beside the market is Ji'an Temple, popularly called the Dadaogong Temple, the centre of worship for Shulin's residents. Every year the temple fair for Baosheng Dadi's birthday, on the 15th day of the third lunar month, is the one big event of the year for the whole of Shulin.
Also in Bao'an Village is Showtime Life Shulin, with a cinema and a mall. Property agents often say most buildings here are under 10 years old and mainly small to mid-sized flats, which draws young first-time buyers, and that Banqiao and Xinzhuang are both easy to reach.
Children go to Wenlin Elementary School, at No. 59, Qiansui Street.
The neighborhood is almost exactly the catchment of Wenlin Elementary School: the whole of Wenlin, Bao'an and Zhenfu villages, plus neighborhood units (lin) 1–2 and 4–23 of Zhen'an Village, lin 1–15 of Zhenmin Village and lin 11–33 of Tandi Village.
There are places to walk and exercise too. Tandi Park is in Tandi Village, and the Shulin Civil Sports Center is on Zhongzheng Road in Zhen'an Village.
In our street photos, out of 100 neighborhoods in New Taipei, this one ranks 62nd for litter and street cleanliness and 63rd for buildings, both in the middle tier.
Daily shopping ranks 78th out of 100 neighborhoods in New Taipei and healthcare 67th, both in the lower tier.
Pavements rank 84th and greenery 89th, also in the lower tier. Property agents say the Showtime area borders the areas on the front and back sides of the railway station, but public transport ranks 73rd, still in the lower tier.
Wenlin, Bao'an and Tandi villages all belonged to Tandi Zhuang in the Qing era, according to Wikipedia's account of the area's history. Ji'an Temple also began in Tandi: settlers from Quanzhou built it near today's Tandi Park in 1788, and it moved to its present site only in 1923.
Tandi Park still has a Shengji Pavilion, also known as a Xizi Pavilion; in 2005 the then Taipei County Government Cultural Affairs Bureau designated it a historic building.
Bao'an Market reflects a more recent change: the landowner of the original Shulin public retail market wanted to redevelop the site, so the city government stopped leasing it from 2015, leaving Bao'an as the only public market in the district.
Phase 2 of the Wanda-Zhonghe-Shulin Line will run along Da'an Road and Zhongzheng Road towards Huilong. The provisional station names from the planning stage include "Tandi Station" and "Jianlisuo Station", named after the motor vehicles office; the Taipei Region Motor Vehicles Office is in Zhenmin Village, inside the neighborhood.
The official station names have not been announced. Wikipedia's progress summary gives a planned opening of September 2031 for Phase 2, and the civil works contract for the eight elevated stations on the Shulin section is due to be completed in March 2029.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
