The Zhonghua Road area keeps its own character, and groceries mean a walk into the lanes off Taishun Street to Pengcuo Market
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
Property agents often describe the Zhonghua Road area as a part of Shulin with its own character, some distance from the railway station. Daily life happens around this road too: for groceries you walk into the lanes off Taishun Street, where Pengcuo Market is in Pengcuo Village; Wikipedia lists it as a privately run market.
School runs do not leave the neighborhood either. Pengfu Elementary School is on Zhongxiao Street in Pengfu Village, and Shulin Senior High School at No. 8 Zhonghua Road is a combined school that teaches from junior high through senior high.
The other primary school, Datong Elementary School, is in Datong Village outside the neighborhood, and Zhonghua and Pengcuo villages are in its catchment.
The neighborhood is exactly the residential side of two adjacent base catchments. The catchment of Pengfu Elementary School covers neighborhood units (lin) 4–17 and 21–27 of Heping Village, lin 3–41 of Pengxing Village, and most lin of Pengfu Village.
Lin 1–4 and 17–20 of Pengfu Village are shared by Pengfu and Datong, while the whole of Zhonghua Village and Pengcuo Village belongs to Datong Elementary School.
In our street photos, greenery ranks 65th out of 100 neighborhoods in New Taipei and healthcare 62nd, both in the middle tier.
In our street photos, the neighborhood looks less tidy than most. Litter and street cleanliness ranks 95th out of 100 neighborhoods in New Taipei, and buildings 95th, both in the lower tier. Pavements rank 91st, so walking conditions are in the lower tier as well.
Commuting is the other thing to think about first. Property agents say this corridor used to be far from the railway station, so residents mostly commuted by bus.
Public transport ranks 86th and daily shopping 74th, also both in the lower tier.
Settlement here began with the break-up of a Qing-era trading partnership: in 1757 the three partners split, and Wu Luo's Wu Jisheng firm received the rights to open up Pengfu Zhuang.
Today's Pengfu, Pengcuo and Pengxing villages were all part of the old Pengfu Zhuang, according to Wikipedia's account of the area's history. Pengcuo also keeps a history of its own worship: Wikipedia records that the statue of Lord Xing was once kept in residents' homes around Pengcuo in turn, until worshippers pooled money to build Zhen'an Temple in 1975.
Phase 2 of the Wanda-Zhonghe-Shulin Line will cross the Dahan River from Tucheng into Shulin, then run along Zhonghua Road, Bade Street and Da'an Road to Huilong. One of the provisional station names from the planning stage is "Pengfu Station"; the official names have not been announced.
Wikipedia's progress summary gives a planned opening of September 2031 for Phase 2, with overall progress at about 48% at the end of September 2026. The civil works contract for the eight elevated stations on the Shulin section is due to be completed in March 2029.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
