01First impressions

This neighborhood is known for its schools. The oldest name on the block is Mingdao High School, founded in 1959 as Wuxun High School; it wasn't renamed Mingdao until a new board of directors took over in 1969. The area around Xingxiang Street next to the school is called Mingdao Garden City, and when newspapers talk about the Wuri commercial area, they treat it as separate from the Wuri Station commercial area. The neighborhood also has three public schools: Jiude Elementary School, Qiaoren Elementary School, and Guangde Junior High School. It's also densely populated — Jiude Village has the largest population in Wuri, with 15,546 residents at the end of 2025, the ninth most populous in all of Taichung. MRT Green Line's Jiude Station sits right on Jianguo Road within the neighborhood.

02What works

School catchments are simple: Jiude Elementary School takes in all of Jiude Village, while Qiaoren Elementary School takes in all of Rende Village and Qianzhu Village. The name of Guangde Junior High School comes from "two Guang, three De" in its catchment — the five villages of Guangming, Wuguang, Jiude, Rende, and Qianzhu. For public transit, this neighborhood ranks 9th out of Taichung's 47 neighborhoods, with Jiude Station averaging about 1,577 entries and exits per day in 2022.

03Heads-up

For everyday shopping, this neighborhood ranks 42nd out of Taichung's 47 neighborhoods in the lower tier, so buying groceries and daily necessities may mean a longer walk. Buildings, as seen in street photos, rank 45th, also in the lower tier.

04A bit of history

In December 1959, Wuxun High School was founded; ten years later a new board of directors took over and renamed it Mingdao High School. After the August 7 Flood earlier that year, overseas Chinese donations helped rebuild the disaster area, and one of those donations became Qiaoren Elementary School, established in 1961 as the Jiude Branch of Wuri Elementary School. Guangde Junior High School was approved for establishment in 1998; its first incoming class in 2000 borrowed classrooms at Qiaoren Elementary School before moving into its new campus in 2001.

05What's coming

Outside the neighborhood, the Jiude zone expropriation project covers about 29.87 hectares near Jiuzhangli Station; construction began in November 2024 and is expected to finish by the end of 2027.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Taichung neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
