Local guide

01First impressions

Nanjing Sanmin refers to the area around the MRT station at the intersection of Nanjing East Road Section 5 and Sanmin Road; the old local name for this spot is 'Dingdongshi'. Head north to Jiankang Road and you're in Minsheng Community; go south to Civic Boulevard Section 5, and beyond that is the Xinyi Planning District. Parks within the neighbourhood include Jixiang Park in Jixiang Li and Baoqing Park in Anping Li.

02What works

For everyday shopping, this neighbourhood ranks 5th out of Taipei's 65 neighbourhoods, and 6th for healthcare, so you can usually handle shopping and minor ailments without leaving the area. Xisong Elementary School sits on Sanmin Road, and all of Dongguang Li, Jixiang Li, and Anping Li fall within its school catchment. If you're after something a bit different, the Taipei Puppet Theatre Museum on Civic Boulevard Section 5 is dedicated to puppet shows and sits in Fusheng Li within the neighbourhood.

03Heads-up

Greenery ranks 61st out of the 65 neighbourhoods, close to the bottom; if you want green space, head to Jixiang Park and Baoqing Park within the neighbourhood. Street environment ranks 46th, also somewhere in the lower-middle range. Some schools and hospitals are actually in the neighbouring Minsheng Community neighbourhood: Xisong Senior High School and the Tri-Service General Hospital Songshan Branch are both outside this neighbourhood, and Minsheng Elementary School isn't in it either.

04A bit of history

When Xisong Elementary School was founded in 1936, it was called Xisongshan Public School, and classes were first held in the side halls of Songshan Ciyou Temple before the school moved to its current site the following year. Part of the school grounds was later shared with Xisong Junior High School, and the site wasn't whole again until the junior high moved out in August 1996. In 1998, Lin Jingfu donated puppets from decades of his personal collection. The city government later built the Taipei Puppet Theatre Museum on land given back as part of the Core Pacific City development by the Core Pacific Group. The Songshan Line opened on 15 November 2014, and Nanjing Sanmin Station opened along with it.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Taipei neighbourhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
