In the narrow lanes of an old residential area, long-time locals live next door to Ming Chi University of Technology students
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
In this neighborhood in southern Taishan, daily life mostly plays out in the old residential areas along Sections 2 and 3 of Mingzhi Road. The property site 5168 says the area is mainly older housing with narrow lanes, home mostly to locals and students; some owners live in their homes, others rent them out.
The students come from Ming Chi University of Technology, at No. 84, Gongzhuan Road, which had 4,327 students in 2024. The site calls this the Ming Chi University of Technology area, centred on the campus and reaching out as far as Mingzhi Elementary School.
Mingzhi Elementary School is at No. 2, Xinsheng Road, and a little over 200 metres away is Mingzhi Academy, from the Qing dynasty.
For school, Mingzhi Elementary School's base catchment covers all of Mingzhi, Xinming, Taiyou and Guizi villages, plus some neighborhood units (lin) of Guihe and Guixian, so a single catchment takes in the whole neighborhood.
For the MRT, Taishan Guihe Station (A6) on the Airport MRT is on Section 6 of Xinbei Boulevard, with a single exit, Exit 1, which has a lift and escalators. From there it's about a 10-minute walk to change to Danfeng Station on the Taipei Metro.
From our street-view photos, rubbish and street cleanliness rank 32nd out of 100 neighborhoods in New Taipei, near the top; buildings rank 46th, in the middle.
Everyday shopping ranks 68th and healthcare 71st, both toward the bottom.
Real-estate listings say the high share of older housing means narrow lanes, limited parking and fewer parks and green spaces than in the newer readjusted districts. Although Guihe Station is inside the neighborhood, it's about 1.1 km from the area around Ming Chi University of Technology.
Mingzhi Road has a story behind its name: in the Qianlong era Hu Zhuoyou donated buildings and farmland to start a charity school, which was later re-established as Mingzhi Academy; local people believe both Mingzhi Road and the Mingzhi community are named after it.
The academy was registered as a historic building on 1 September 2003; in June that year, a trema tree beside it fell and crushed the main hall, and rebuilding was finished on 26 September 2005.
Guizi and Guihe villages take their names from the old place name Guizikeng. Under Japanese rule, Taishan's predecessor was called Guizaikeng District, and its district office stood in what is now Guizi Village.
In December 1963, Wang Yung-ching and Wang Yung-tsai of Formosa Plastics founded Ming Chi Institute of Technology; it was upgraded to a college of technology in 1999 and became Ming Chi University of Technology in 2004.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
