01First impressions

Living in this neighborhood, most of daily life happens on Jianguo 1st Road and Jianguo 2nd Road. The property site 5168 lists these two roads as the main residential area and also as where people eat: the Jianguo Road shopping area has a traditional market, breakfast shops and small eateries, and is described as a local shopping area geared to everyday errands.

Fu Jen University Station on Zhongzheng Road ties this everyday street to the university: Exit 2 leads to Jianguo 1st Road, and Exit 1 to Fu Jen Catholic University. The campus covers about 35 hectares and had more than 25,000 students in 2023. The area around Fu Jen forms its own shopping area as well.

Around the MRT stations on Zhongzheng Road, fast-food chains and bubble tea shops dominate. The same site says the housing here is mostly older walk-up flats and mid-rise blocks, and some older estates are short of parking.

02What works

Primary schools are split two ways: Yingpan and Fuying villages go to Guotai Elementary School, and Jian'an and Jianfu villages to Min'an Elementary School. Guotai Elementary School is inside this neighborhood at No. 386, Zhongzheng Road; Min'an Elementary School is on Min'an Road, outside it.

You don't have to go far to see a doctor. Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital opened in 2017 on Guizi Road in Taishan District, one street from the university's main campus and outside this neighborhood.

Going by our street-view photos, rubbish and street cleanliness ranks 17th among New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods and buildings rank 22nd, both near the top.

03Heads-up

Fu Jen Catholic University's campus lies in Yingpan Village, so that village is not residential throughout; the residential area the property site describes is concentrated around Jianguo Road.

Daily shopping ranks 67th among New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods and sidewalks rank 72nd, both toward the bottom. The property site also notes that Zhongzheng Road is congested at morning and evening rush hours.

04A bit of history

Guotai Elementary School and Min'an Elementary School actually grew out of the same school. In 1919, during the Japanese colonial period, the local public school set up the Xisheng Branch School on what is now the Min'an Elementary School site.

In 1950 the school moved to its current site on Zhongzheng Road, and the original site became the Min'an Branch School. Min'an became independent in 1961, and in 1963 the school on Zhongzheng Road was renamed Guotai.

That same year, Fu Jen Catholic University, re-established in Taiwan, opened its Xinzhuang campus, with classes starting on 21 October.

How are these measured?

Compared against the New Taipei neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
