01First impressions

Living in central Bali, weekends mean cycling along the left bank. The Bali Left Bank Bike Path runs about 14 km, past Bali Left Bank Park, Bali Cultural Park and the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology, all three inside the neighborhood.

Weekday life is around Zhongshan Road. Estate agents split Bali into three parts, Zhongshan Road, the Left Bank and Guanyin Mountain, and call Zhongshan Road the town centre. Bali District Office is in Dinggu Village, and Bali Elementary School is in Jiucheng Village; the school began in the Japanese era as Haiqiancuo Public School.

Agents also say Bali has two night markets, one at the ferry pier and one at Liao Tianding Temple. The temple is in Xuntang Village, inside the neighborhood, and the ferry pier is in Micang Village, outside it. For school, Bali Elementary takes Jiucheng and Xuntang, Dakan Elementary takes Dakan and Pitou, and Dinggu Village is split between the two.

02What works

In our street photos, litter and street cleanliness ranks 8th of New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, and buildings 14th, both near the top.

Greenery ranks 23rd, also near the top; nearly 70% of Bali District is the hills and mountains of Guanyin Mountain.

03Heads-up

Living in central Bali, you mostly leave the neighborhood to shop or see a doctor. Everyday shopping ranks 84th of New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods and healthcare 95th, both toward the bottom. Agents also say residents go to Xinzhuang or Tamsui for medical care and shopping.

Public transport ranks 96th, close to last, and sidewalks 69th, also toward the bottom. To reach the MRT you first take a bus; the Red 13, for example, runs from the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology to Guandu Station.

In April 2026, residents of Pitou Village reported wind noise from the railings of Danjiang Bridge when the northeast monsoon blows. The Highway Bureau first fitted sound-damping rubber strips, with a longer-term aluminium clip fix due by the end of August; we have not found any report that it has been finished.

04A bit of history

The Shihsanhang Archaeological Site dates from about 1,800 to 500 years ago and is the emblem of Taiwan's entry into the Iron Age.

Liao Tianding Temple in Xuntang Village began as a shrine built in 1958 in front of Liao Tianding's grave. In 1975 it was renamed Hanmin Shrine and registered as a temple to Lord Guan, but people still call it Liao Tianding Temple.

In 2003 the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology opened to preserve the prehistoric culture of the Shihsanhang Archaeological Site. The site itself was redesignated a national archaeological site in 2006.

05What's coming

Danjiang Bridge opened on 12 May 2026; the middle of the bridge is reserved for light rail and serves as a bus lane for now. The Danhai Light Rail's Bali Line is still at the planning stage with no timetable, and the idea is for it to run along Bowuguan Road past the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology.

How are these measured?

Compared against the New Taipei neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
