Living on the riverbank among the mangroves, cycling along the river to Tamsui in the evening
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
On the north bank of the Tamsui River beside Zhuwei is the Tamsui River Mangrove Nature Reserve, designated in 1986, where Kandelia mangroves grow thickly on the mudflats. The reserve itself lies outside this neighborhood; from Hongshulin Station on its northern edge to Tamsui Station, a 2.5-kilometre cycle and foot path runs along the reserve's outer edge.
Real-estate listings say that being close to Taipei City and Beitou, the area is home to many medical staff from MacKay Memorial Hospital and Taipei Veterans General Hospital, as well as people who commute into Taipei. By the MRT station exits there are fast-food chains, convenience stores, pharmacies and small to mid-sized supermarkets, and along Minquan Road there are banks, clinics and chain restaurants.
Zhuwei Elementary School and Zhuwei Senior High School are both in Bashi Village in this neighborhood; the Zhuwei Elementary School catchment covers four villages, Zhuwei, Minquan, Bashi and Minsheng, and Fude Village is a free-choice zone.
In our street photos, buildings rank 9th and greenery 12th, both in the upper tier of New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods.
Public transport ranks 25th, also in the upper tier; Zhuwei Station is the last stop on the Tamsui-Xinyi Line before it enters Taipei City, and the next stop is Guandu.
Daily shopping ranks 74th of New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, in the lower tier; listings say shops are concentrated around the MRT station exits and along Minquan Road. Healthcare ranks 70th, also in the lower tier, although MacKay Memorial Hospital Tamsui Branch is on Minquan Road inside this neighborhood.
Hongshulin Station is on the northern edge, and listings say that for big shopping trips or a hospital visit, people there have to take the MRT one stop to Zhuwei or go to Tamsui's old town. The same listings say the older streets have narrow lanes and too little parking, traffic jams easily at peak times, and some of the buildings along Minquan Road are fairly old.
The word "zhuwei" originally meant the bamboo hedge ringing a village. Zhuwei Station was opened by Taiwan Railway in 1930, closed with the Tamsui Line in 1988, and reopened as an MRT station in 1997.
Zhuwei Elementary School was founded in 1952; Minsheng and Fude villages were split off from Zhuwei Village in 1987, and Minquan Village in 2009. Zhuwei Senior High School began as Zhuwei Junior High School, founded in 1996; it first held classes in borrowed rooms at Zhuwei Elementary School, moved to its present site on Zhulin Road in 1998 and became a senior high school in 2012.
The Danjiang Bridge opened on 12 May 2026; from the Tamsui end it links to Provincial Highway 64 in Bali. Provincial Highway 2 is Tamsui's single main road to Taipei and has more than 11 junctions along the way; work on the Danbei Road began on 2 February 2024, with opening expected in 2029.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.
How to read it: yellow = poor, blue = good; grey = not enough data
TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
