01First impressions

Nagahara Station is underground; above it, the second floor has a Tokyu Store supermarket and the third floor a 100-yen shop. Outside the ticket gates, there are sometimes takoyaki and taiyaki stalls set up right out front; beside the station there's also a shopping street, a post office, and branches of a bank and a shinkin credit union.

In the northwest corner of the neighborhood is Kita-senzoku Station, on the Oimachi Line, a small surface station built on a slope. In fiscal 2025 it averaged only 7,467 boardings and alightings a day; nearby are the city-run Akamatsu Elementary School and the Senzoku Special Branch Office. Senzokuike is outside the neighborhood to the southwest, along Nakahara Kaido in Minamisenzoku 2-chome, and by the pond there's Katsu Kaishu's grave and a memorial hall.

This neighborhood covers Kamiikedai 1-chome and 4-chome, Minamisenzoku 1-chome, and Kitasenzoku 2-chome; in 2020 around 17,000 people lived here, about 201 per hectare.

02What works

From our street photos, medical care and pharmacies rank 50th out of 395 neighborhoods in Tokyo, near the top, and are the strongest category for this neighborhood. Daily shopping ranks 145th, in the middle of the pack.

Nagahara Station is served only by the Ikegami Line, with three-car Local trains stopping at every station; the next station toward Gotanda is Hatanodai, where you can transfer to the Oimachi Line. The Kitasenzoku 2-chome side of the neighborhood uses Kita-senzoku Station directly: in the listings data we compiled, 85% of properties there have Kita-senzoku as their nearest station, and over a third across the whole neighborhood.

03Heads-up

Greenery ranks 315th out of 395 neighborhoods in Tokyo, toward the bottom, and is the weakest category for this neighborhood. The scoring is based on 49 street-photo grid cells, of which only 5 are in Kamiikedai 4-chome, so the score mainly reflects the area around Kamiikedai 1-chome and Kitasenzoku 2-chome.

TidyMap ran its own estimate, taking points roughly every 40 meters within the neighborhood on the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan's flood inundation hazard map (maximum assumed scale). Fewer than one in ten of these points fall within the projected flood zone, and almost all of those are under 0.5 meters. For your specific address, please check Ota City's hazard map.

04A bit of history

In 1922, the Ikegami Electric Railway opened, originally to carry worshippers visiting Ikegami Honmonji Temple.

In August 1927, Nagahara Station opened, taking its name from the place name "Nagahara, Magome Village, Ebara District"; before opening, it had originally been planned to be called Magome Station. Kita-senzoku Station, to the northwest, opened a year later, in October 1928, under the name "Ikezuki," as the nearest station to Senzokuike, and wasn't renamed Kita-senzoku until 1936.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Tokyo neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
