West of the station, in Yukigaya-Otsuka, the stretch of Nakahara Kaido near the station has banks, credit unions, and a Tokyu Store tucked in among the shops. Turn into the side streets, and although there is also Bank of Japan employee housing and apartments, the area overall is a residential district centered on detached houses.
The "Otsuka" in the neighborhood's name is said to come from the Unoki-Otsuka burial mound within the neighborhood. This round tumulus, about 27 meters in diameter and about 6 meters high, still stands today, and part of it has become an Inari shrine.

In 1923, the Ikegami Electric Railway opened Yukigaya Station, and in 1927 Chofu-Otsuka Station was added; in 1933 the two stations were merged and moved to the current site, with the station name taking one part from each of the two station names. In 1943 it was changed to "Yukigaya-Otsuka," and in 1966 the way the station name was written was changed again.
As for the neighborhood name, Chofu-Otsuka-cho implemented the residential address system in 1962 and was renamed Yukigaya-Otsuka-cho. Higashi-Tamagawa 1-chome and 2-chome, meanwhile, were created in 1967 with Jiyu-dori as the boundary.
