01First impressions

The area around Wenhu Street is a residential neighborhood on the northern edge of Neihu, with mountains rising just beyond to the north. The side closer to the mountains is mostly purely residential, with a quiet, pleasant environment. The name Neihu describes this terrain: hills enclose a series of small basins, and locals call these mountain hollows "hu" (lake), so "Neihu" means "inner basin". The northern edge of the basin is formed by a mountain ridge running from Dajinmian Mountain to Bihu Elementary School, and this neighborhood sits against its southern side. If you want to head up into the hills, the Jinmianshan Hiking Trail runs about 3.5 km, with the trailhead on Huanshan Road Section 1, just outside this neighborhood.

02What works

There are mountains to the north, and this neighborhood ranks 25th out of Taipei's 73 neighborhoods for greenery. Kids here are split between two adjacent elementary school districts: Wenhu Elementary School is inside the neighborhood, while Xihu Elementary School is just outside, in Xihu Village. Also inside the neighborhood, on Huanshan Road Section 1, is Takming University of Science and Technology, a private university focused mainly on business and management.

03Heads-up

For buildings, this neighborhood ranks 22nd out of Taipei's 73 neighborhoods. That said, the overall streetscape around Xihu tends to look old: the lanes are full of aging, elevator-less walk-up apartments, and parking is hard to find. Areas close to the elevated MRT tracks and main roads tend to be noisier. Only the southwest corner of this neighborhood is brushed by the elevated Wenhu Line, around the area south of Wenhu Elementary School. The nearest station, Xihu Station, is outside the neighborhood, in the neighboring Neihu Technology Park neighborhood, and public transit here ranks 55th.

04A bit of history

The founder of Takming University of Science and Technology, Chen Baoxin, was the daughter of Chen Jitang. She came to Taiwan in 1963 to survey potential sites for the school and chose the current location in Neihu. In 1965, Takming Junior College of Administrative Management was registered, and its first class of students began on November 12. The school went through several reorganizations over the years, and in 2007 it was renamed Takming University of Science and Technology.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Taipei neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
