Local guide

01First impressions

Fuxinggang refers to the area around Fuxinggang MRT Station. The old local name for this area was Galaobie, while the station's name comes from Fuxinggang, the name of the campus of the Political Warfare Cadres Academy of National Defense University to the north. The neighbourhood extends north to the area around Daoxiang Road, taking in the two adjacent school zones of Taoyuan Elementary School and Wenhua Elementary School. A large part of the neighbourhood is also taken up by the Political Warfare Cadres Academy's campus, about 39.5 hectares.

02What works

Greenery coverage ranks 21st among Taipei's 65 neighbourhoods, putting it in the top third; rubbish and street cleanliness rank 25th, also in the top half. Taoyuan Native Plant Park is in Taoyuan Li, and Daoxiang Park is in Daoxiang Li, both within the neighbourhood. Both elementary schools are in the neighbourhood: Taoyuan Elementary School serves Taoyuan Li and Daoxiang Li, while Wenhua Elementary School serves Wenhua Li and Fengnian Li. Real estate agents describe this area as purely residential, with little commercial activity.

03Heads-up

Daily grocery shopping ranks 65th among Taipei's 65 neighbourhoods—dead last; healthcare access also ranks 65th, so you'll need to plan ahead for both shopping and seeing a doctor. Real estate agents' version of the Fuxinggang neighbourhood also includes Zhonghe Street and Xiushan Road, but these are actually outside the neighbourhood, so double-check the location when reading listings. This area sits on hillside terrain, and agents mention that it tends to be quite damp. Taoyuan Junior High School and Zhongyi Station are both in neighbouring Yide Li, outside the neighbourhood.

04A bit of history

In 1951, the Political Cadres School was established at the site of the former Beitou Racecourse from the Japanese colonial era—this was the predecessor of today's Political Warfare Cadres Academy. In 1954, the 9th Taiwan Provincial Games were held at Fuxinggang, and Taiwan Railways even set up a temporary 'Provincial Games Station' for the occasion, which was decommissioned as soon as the games ended. On March 28, 1997, the Tamsui Line opened, and Fuxinggang Station began operating together with the roughly 41-hectare Beitou Depot to the south.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Taipei neighbourhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
