Nangangzi is a land readjustment area on the west side of Luzhou, and real-estate listings describe it as Luzhou's most recent large readjustment zone, with a grid of roads and neat blocks. Daily life mostly revolves around Zhongyi Elementary School: the school is on Guangrong Road, with Liudi Park beside it and Caihong Children's Park towards Guangming Road.
The willows in Liudi Park have a story. Before the land readjustment, tenant farmers grew vegetables here and dug irrigation channels, piled the dug-out soil into banks along the fields, and planted willows on the banks. Later, when roads and housing were to be built here, more than a hundred willows were moved into the park, which is why it is called Liudi, "willow bank".
The park was later planted with 10 kinds of fruit, including Asian pears, peaches and sugar apples, and became a place where nearby schools teach local studies.

In the 1920 administrative divisions, Luzhou Zhuang was split into seven oaza (a Japanese-era unit), and Heshangzhou Nangangzi was one of them. Before the land readjustment, this was farmland where tenant farmers dug channels and grew vegetables.
The willow banks by the fields were later swallowed by scrub and abandoned fields, and were only rediscovered by chance by local historians in 1998. They sat right on land zoned for housing and roads in the readjustment, and the city office and county government failed to keep them in place, so in the end the willows were moved to the park.
In 1999 Zhongyi Elementary School was established in the readjustment zone, and its first phase of buildings was finished in 2002. The school is named after Zhongyi Temple on Chang'an Street in Huiyao.
