High-rise streets around Azabudai Hills, with five times as many people by day as by night
You can walk directly from either Kamiyacho Station or Roppongi-itchome Station to Azabudai Hills via an underground passage, which fully opened in October 2025. Azabudai Hills opened in November 2023, and its two Residence towers are mainly residential. But this area is dominated by office workers during the day: according to the 2020 census, the neighborhood had 43,933 people during the day and only 8,475 at night. The daytime population is 5.2 times the nighttime population, compared to 3.73 times for Minato City as a whole. Housing has also been built into the redeveloped high-rises—for example, Izumi Garden, completed in 2002, has a 32-storey residential tower. Based on our street photos, the streetscape among the high-rises ranks 6th among Tokyo's 219 neighborhoods.
The overall rating ranks 2nd among Tokyo's 219 neighborhoods. For getting around, you can rely on Kamiyacho Station, which averaged 114,275 passengers a day in fiscal 2025, the highest among Hibiya Line stations that don't connect with other lines. Public transit ranks 17th among the 219 neighborhoods. Roppongi-itchome Station on the Namboku Line sits just outside the neighborhood's northwest border, and Izumi Garden connects directly to it.
The big gap between daytime and nighttime population is because this area is dominated by offices. The most extreme case is Toranomon 4-chome, with 12,099 people during the day and only 760 at night. These are 2020 figures, and the resident population has grown since then. Azabudai 1-chome's registered resident population has grown from 190 to 1,138 as of September 2026. Daily shopping ranks 20th and healthcare ranks 45th, both near the top among the 219 neighborhoods. Toranomon 1- and 2-chome, home to Toranomon Hills, and Akasaka 1-chome are outside the neighborhood, and only the Roppongi-itchome side of Ark Hills counts as being within it.
Kamiyacho Station on the Hibiya Line opened in 1964, taking its name from the town name of the time, Shiba-Kamiyacho. In 1977, a residential address reorganization merged old towns like Nishikubo and Shiba-Kamiyacho into what is now Toranomon—a name that had already been used before the war for an intersection and a subway station. Roppongi-itchome was originally a densely packed residential area; the Ark Hills redevelopment was completed in 1986, and about 80% of the landowners moved out of the area. Roppongi-itchome Station on the Namboku Line opened in 2000, and two years later, Izumi Garden next to the station was completed.
