01First impressions

Haginaka Park, southwest of Otorii Station, takes up a large area; the indoor heated pool is open year-round, and an outdoor pool is added in summer. The park also has a children's traffic park, where kids can borrow bicycles and ride along routes with traffic lights.

The station was built underground at the intersection of Kanpachi-dori and Sangyo-doro, with the west exit in Nishi-Kojiya; the east exit already puts you in Haneda 1-chome, which belongs to the neighboring Anamori-inari neighborhood. The Otorii in the station's name is no longer there. Apartment buildings have increased around the station in recent years, and Hamatake Library is nearby too.

This neighborhood covers Nishi-Kojiya 2- and 3-chome, Haginaka 3-chome, Motohaneda 3-chome, and Higashi-Kojiya 1- to 4-chome; as of 2020, about 28,000 people lived here, roughly 186 per hectare.

02What works

From our street photos, daily shopping ranks 180th out of 395 neighborhoods in Tokyo, in the middle of the pack, which is the highest-ranking category for this neighborhood. Public transit ranks 205th, also in the middle of the pack.

Otorii Station handled about 32,000 boardings and alightings a day in fiscal 2025, ranking 16th among the 72 Keikyu stations. Heading toward Shinagawa, the next station is Kojiya; heading toward the airport, it's Anamori-inari.

03Heads-up

Medical care and pharmacies rank 293rd, and greenery ranks 366th, both toward the bottom; greenery is the weakest category for this neighborhood.

There's a Shuto Expressway Haneda interchange near the station, and Kanpachi-dori and Sangyo-doro also meet here, concentrating traffic. For the whole of Higashi-Kojiya, most of the zoning is exclusively industrial, industrial, or quasi-industrial; this neighborhood only covers 1- to 4-chome, and 5- and 6-chome along the coast to the east are not included.

TidyMap ran its own estimate, taking points roughly every 40 meters within the neighborhood on the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan's flood inundation hazard map. About 97% of the points fall in the 0.5 to 3 meter range.

During the storm surge brought by the 1917 typhoon, Higashi-Kojiya flooded up to 1.5 meters. Check Ota City's hazard map for your own address.

04A bit of history

The name Otorii comes from Anamori-inari Shrine: in 1899, a new road leading directly to the shrine was opened, and a torii gate called the "Ichi-no-Otorii" was erected at its entrance, in what is now the area around Kanpachi-dori.

It's not clear exactly when this Otorii disappeared; some say it fell during the Great Kanto Earthquake, while others say it was torn down during the construction of Kanpachi-dori.

The intersection next to the station used to be two T-junctions back to back, and the railway crossing often caused traffic jams and accidents. In 1997, the station was moved underground, and the intersection was changed into an ordinary four-way crossing.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Tokyo neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
