01First impressions

In 1997, Fuji Television moved its headquarters from Shinjuku to Odaiba. The seaside park in Daiba 1-chome has a man-made beach, and you can fish along the rocky shore area. From the seaside park you can continue on to Daisan Daiba, a coastal defense fort built by the shogunate, which has free admission year-round.

Next to the seaside park are two shopping malls facing Tokyo Bay, Decks Tokyo Beach and Aqua City Odaiba; Decks also houses Tokyo Joypolis and Legoland Discovery Center Tokyo. The park has a Statue of Liberty replica, and the Rainbow Bridge crosses from here to Shibaura on the other side.

Almost all of Odaiba's households are in Daiba 1-chome: in 2020, 4,585 people lived there, compared to only 999 in 2-chome. Yet in the daytime, 2-chome has 9,910 people, about ten times its resident population.

In this neighborhood, households of three or more people make up about 35%, compared to only 22% for Minato City as a whole; the proportion of children under 15 is also higher than in Minato City.

In 2020, not a single household in 1-chome owned their home, and only 105 households were in private rentals; the rental buildings are managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Housing Supply Corporation, UR, and Toei public housing.

02What works

From our street photos, the neighborhood's environment ranks 1st among 395 neighborhoods in Tokyo, and its greenery ranks 1st. Street cleanliness ranks 3rd, and sidewalks rank 4th.

Since March 2026, the park has had a fountain installed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Tokyo Aqua Symphony.

03Heads-up

Most of the apartment buildings here are rentals; 1-chome and 2-chome have 14 in total, and the only one sold as individual units is The Towers Daiba in 2-chome. Everyday convenience is on the weak side: convenience ranks 292nd among 395 neighborhoods, and daily shopping ranks 334th. Healthcare ranks 389th, the weakest category in this neighborhood; public transit ranks 107th, at the tail end of the top group.

04A bit of history

The name of this neighborhood comes from the sea forts: after Commodore Perry's arrival in 1853, the shogunate built the Shinagawa Daiba batteries. Because they were built by the shogunate, people added the honorific prefix meaning "honorable" (o), giving rise to the name Odaiba.

In 1979, the No. 13 landfill was completed. In 1995, the World City Exposition was cancelled and companies withdrew; in November of that year, the Yurikamome line opened.

In 1996, Minato City established Daiba-cho, Daisan Daiba was incorporated into Daiba 1-chome, and the seaside park reopened that same year. Koyo Elementary School and Koyo Junior High School also opened in the 1996 school year.

How are these measured?

Compared against the Tokyo neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
