A quiet residential area with some farmland left, and the Senkawa River running through the middle of the park
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
Kami-Soshigaya is a quiet residential street in the northwest corner of Setagaya City, bordering Chofu City, and some farmland still remains. A good spot for a walk is the Tokyo Metropolitan Soshigaya Park in 3-chome, where the Senkawa River runs north-south through the park, dividing it into east and west halves.
A waterside deck has been set up along the Senkawa River, so you can walk right up to the water's edge. The row of cherry trees on the west bank was grown from seeds of the cherry trees in Washington's Potomac Park — the very cherry trees Tokyo City sent over in 1912 — so this is them "returning to their hometown".
In 2020, about 9,600 people lived in this neighborhood, roughly 132 people per hectare.
From our street photos, greenery ranks 76th out of 395 neighborhoods in Tokyo, and cleanliness ranks 69th, both in the top tier.
There's no station within the neighborhood itself; the nearest station varies by chome: 2-chome is close to Chitose-Karasuyama Station, 3-chome is close to Seijo-Gakuen-mae Station, and 6- and 7-chome are close to Sengawa Station. On real estate listing pages, properties in 2-chome are listed as an 8- to 10-minute walk to Chitose-Karasuyama Station, and 6-chome properties are also listed against Chitose-Karasuyama Station, at a 12- to 17-minute walk.
At the "Komadai Ground-mae" stop by the park entrance, Odakyu buses run to Seijo-Gakuen-mae Station, Chitose-Karasuyama Station, and Chitose-Funabashi Station.
Convenience of daily life ranks 389th out of 395 neighborhoods in Tokyo, and public transit ranks 375th, both in the bottom tier.
3-chome is farthest from any station; two listings found on the same day gave a 20-minute walk to Chitose-Karasuyama Station, or a 21-minute walk to Soshigaya-Okura Station. Metropolitan Route 118 runs east-west through this area and carries heavy traffic.
Kami-Soshigaya was originally Kami-Soshigaya Village in Ebara District, became an oaza of Chitose Village in 1889, and was incorporated into Setagaya City in 1936. It was only with the residential address system implemented on September 1, 1970, that the current Kami-Soshigaya 1- through 7-chome came into being.
Soshigaya Park traces its origin to wartime air-defense greenbelt planning in 1943. It wasn't until over thirty years later, in 1975, that the park opened, centered on the former farmland of Tokyo University of Education, and afterward it kept expanding in stages as surrounding land was purchased.

Hospitals with inpatient beds (2020 data), public elementary and junior high schools whose catchment covers this area, high schools and universities within 1 km, stations, parks of 1 ha or more, and large shopping malls and department stores. Many Tokyo junior high students attend private schools, so junior high catchments are only a guide.
Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
