Across the Bitan Suspension Bridge, a home in the hillside estates at the foot of Hemeishan
The closest neighborhoods in the same city.
The Bitan West Bank lies on the west bank of the Xindian River, looking across the water at the Xindian Station side. Real-estate listings say residents who want the MRT walk over the river on the Bitan Suspension Bridge to Xindian Station. The bridge was completed in 1937 and is now for pedestrians only.
The bridge itself is outside the neighborhood, but its west end lands you in Taiping Village, inside the neighborhood, where Taiping Sports Park is too. Real-estate listings describe the area as ringed by hills, a neighborhood at the foot of the slopes, with the Hemeishan Trail to the southeast.
Further up the hill is Meicheng Village, home to the Meizhicheng estate and the hiking trail up Hemeishan.
There are no schools in the neighborhood. The base catchment of Xindian Elementary School covers neighborhood units (lin) 1 to 10 of Dingcheng Village and Taiping Village; lin 11 to 18 of Dingcheng Village belong to Ankeng Elementary School; Meicheng Village is shared between Xindian Elementary School and Zhitan Elementary School.
Besides crossing the suspension bridge for the MRT, real-estate listings say you can also go by road to Ankang Station on the Ankeng Light Rail.
In our street photos, out of 100 neighborhoods in New Taipei, this one ranks 62nd for litter and street cleanliness and 44th for greenery, both in the middle tier.
There are no schools, large stores or medical facilities here, and real-estate listings say everyday needs depend on the right bank of Xindian or on Ankeng. Daily shopping ranks 94th, healthcare 97th, public transport 71st, pavements 95th and buildings 96th, all in the lower tier.
Real-estate listings also mention heavy tourist crowds at weekends, with noticeable noise on some stretches; most estates are over 25 years old and new developments are few; being right against the hillside makes it damp, and cemeteries are visible from some parts.
The Bitan Suspension Bridge was built because ferries were unsafe in the rainy season; work began in 1936 and finished in 1937, connecting the east bank of the Xindian River with Ankeng and Zhonghe on the west bank.
Typhoon Gloria badly damaged the bridge in 1963; after repairs in 1966 the deck was narrowed and split by a central railing into two one-way lanes, and a third renovation in 1999 removed the railing and restored the original width. In 2013, after an urban renewal project on the east bank crept up to the bridge piers, citizens applied for it to be preserved, and New Taipei City designated it a municipal monument that same year.
In the north of the neighborhood, north of Bitan Bridge and between National Freeway No. 3 and the Xindian River, lie about 21.76 hectares of land that are mostly gravel yards and scrub. In September 2025 the New Taipei City Land Administration Department held a public hearing on zone expropriation for the site, with plans for residential and commercial zones and two parks, plus land set aside for about 1,300 social housing units.

Maps show the shops and the sights. What a street is like, you only know by walking it. TidyMap uses AI street imagery analysis and public facility data to turn each area's street environment and everyday convenience into something you can compare. Search an address and look at the street outside first.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. Street environment scores use AI assessments of imagery; convenience scores use public facility data.
