01First impressions

The lanes of Zhongyuan are almost nothing but homes; real-estate listings describe the area as purely residential, quiet and peaceful. At weekends you walk west into the hills: the Yuanwei Mountain Trail is in Zhongpu Village, inside this neighborhood, about 0.65 km in a straight line from Zhongyuan Elementary School, and listings also name it as the place where residents get out into nature.

The lanes hang off Zhongyuan Street, Datong Road and Hongyuan Street, and Hongyuan Street and Datong Road have more of the newly built homes. Children go to the nearby Zhongyuan Elementary School, named after Zhongyuan Street right next to it.

Listings also say most residents work in the industrial parks and office districts around the edge, or commute into central Taipei and New Taipei.

02What works

The base catchment of Zhongyuan Elementary School covers Zhongpu, Hongdao and Bazhang Villages plus neighborhood units (lin) 1 to 5 of Dapu Village, so all three villages here are wholly inside it.

In our street photos, greenery ranks 41st of New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, in the middle range, and it is this neighborhood's best-ranked category.

03Heads-up

There is no MRT station here, and public transport ranks 89th, toward the bottom. The Sanying Line opened on 30 June 2026, but the nearest station, National Taipei University Station, is north of the neighborhood, about 1.2 km in a straight line from Zhongyuan Elementary School. Listings also say residents mainly get around by scooter, car and bus, and commuting is hard going without your own vehicle.

Everyday shopping ranks 82nd and healthcare 78th, also toward the bottom. There are no large department stores or hypermarkets in the area; daily needs come from chain supermarkets, and for a big shop you go to the hypermarkets in the Beida Special District, outside the neighborhood.

In our street photos, sidewalks rank second from the bottom, and litter and street cleanliness ranks last of New Taipei's 100 neighborhoods, both among the last few.

04A bit of history

In Sanxia's historical records, around 1796 (early in the Jiaqing reign), Chen Jinsheng came to clear land in Bazhang and Zhongpu, originally Atayal territory, and in Jiaoxi across the river. In 1932 Sanxia Zhuang was divided into 24 dazi, and Bazhang and Zhongpu were each one of them.

More than two centuries later, as Sanxia's population grew and Sanxia Elementary School came under pressure to add classes, Zhongyuan Elementary School was set up. In August 2002 it took over pupils transferred from Sanxia Elementary and began enrolling in its own right.

How are these measured?

Compared against the New Taipei neighborhoods in this guide; metrics without enough data are not ranked. Shopping counts convenience stores plus the nearer of a supermarket or a traditional market (public and private retail markets); night markets, vendor zones and shopping-street shops are not counted. Transit is rail-first with a lower weight for buses.

TidyMap rates the street environment and everyday convenience. It does not assess the home itself, safety, noise or actual living experience. About data limits
